Faculty Exhibition

Though I couldn't find a statement on the gallery, I feel that the gallery revolves around human perception and how we view ourselves along with the nature around us. Works like Stephanie Dinkins' "Still & Yet Mundane", Patricia Maurides "Pollen, and Linda O'Keeffe's "Continents Drifting" distorts objects that we're familiar with, like rocks, sunsets, tree bark and people to comment on our impact on humanity and nature from different angles.

The show is presented using a variety of materials. Along with traditional forms such as paper, ink, colored pencil, oil, video, sound, and photographs, there was utilization of biodegradable plastics and binocular imaging. I felt that the scale of the works grew larger as I went through the gallery, starting with photographs and paintings to large exhibits of video and sculpture.

Linda O'Keeffe's "Professor and Chair" stood out to me because of its messaging. It takes a look at the non-organic microcosms of the Earth beyond our perception to comment on our juxtaposing, large impact effect on the environment. Andreas Rentsch's "Pandemonium" also stood out as it distorts photographs to the point where people look inhuman and near paranormal, painting us as ominous and frightening.
